Robin Robinson

Robin Robinson has been a Sankofa Fine Art Plus board member since 2012 and presently serves as its Executive Director.  She is a painter, photographer, and educator who facilitate art therapy related programs for troubled youth and seniors in the Glenville community. Abused as a child, Robin knows firsthand the healing power of art.

Robin is a certified art therapist, community activist and multi-media artist.  Her artworks have received numerous accolades and awards.  In 2015, as co-Executive Director Robin created the “Urban Renaissance with heART” program convinced of the healing power of art, Sankofa is committed to bringing fine art outside of the traditional/restrictive art venues into the urban community in the form of co-creative, collaborative, public art projects. In 2021 Robin curated CROSSROADS (Still We Rise)    the first large scale Augmented Reality exhibition in Northeast Ohio in partnership with The Sculpture Center of Cleveland. 12 local Black artists were selected and with community engagement each artist created an AR piece on 12 sites. Robin invited the audience to experience the resilience and fortitude of 12 under-represented eastside communities while simultaneously curating a second exhibit within The Sculpture Center utilizing a totally different AR interpretation of the same artworks. Robin worked as an artist consultant on several city projects and was very active in the distribution of ARPA funds to support the arts in Cleveland.

Currently Robin is the Executive Director of Sankofa Fine Art Plus and is in the process of creating a new five (5) year Strategic Plan to make the organization sustainable and continuing Sankofa’s mission of education and community engagement.

Sankofa Fine Art Plus is a nonprofit community arts organization founded in 1999 by a group of art enthusiasts who shared a passion for African American and ethnic art and artists. With an understanding of the limited opportunities available for African American and ethnic artists in mainstream venues, the co-founders created Sankofa Fine Art Plus (Sankofa) to develop opportunities to educate and expose the community to African American and ethnic art while demonstrating the true value of that art.
