Artist Statement and bio

At 90 years of age the creative process still excites and challenges me. My focus is bringing together the elements of design to create a balanced whole that impacts the viewer emotionally.  I repeatedly explore shapes, color, texture and pattern.  The content flows after I start the process and is influenced by my many life experiences and long experience creating art. A touch of whimsy adds to the fun.

I discovered the joy of drawing in childhood. Seeing the great masters in European Museums spurred me on to earn a BA in art and an MA in art education from Southeastern State University, Durant, Oklahoma. I continued with art consistently, participating in juried shows, earning recognition in several states during my years as a teacher and mental health professional. Influences have been Van Gogh, Egon Schiel, Gustave Klimt, Chaim Soutine and African art. In 1992 I moved to Strongsville, Ohio and became a full-time artist.  I now create stylized art with a strong abstract quality and use of distortion. It is a distinctive style acquired by discerning art collectors nationwide.
