Around 1600, the stones of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice echoed as composers placed groups of brass instruments, strings, lutes, and singers in different parts of the church.
Apollo’s Fire brass players take the spotlight in the stunning music of Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Praetorius, and Schütz. Program design: a collaboration between Jeannette Sorrell and Italian Renaissance/Baroque musicologist Dr. Marica Tacconi (Pennsylvania State University). The program draws on Professor Tacconi’s recent research on early Baroque “echo” repertoire in Venice. Dr. Tacconi will also present the pre-concert talks.
