Alebrijes is a folk art form of Mexico; these are tiny and large sculptures of fantastical creatures, for example, one might have horns of goat, wings of an eagle, and a fish tail. They are painted with bright designs and widely seen throughout Mex.
While our first Alebrijes workshop was directed towards youth from 13-16 years old, in practice we ended up accepting students and their interested family members. For this workshop, we aim to offer a second workshop to youth (17+) and adults.
We will focus on two distinct techniques – paper mâché in the Mexico City tradition and also wood-based work in the style of Oaxaca).
