The McGaffin Carillon, in the heart of University Circle,  is the only cast-bell carillon in the city of Cleveland. The 47 Dutch bells, cast and installed in 1968, weigh a total of 15,000 pounds. They are played from a console high in the tower. The bells sing out over the nearby University Circle area. The action is totally mechanical and the performer has complete control over musical expression. The audience is invited to listen from their cars or the lawns and campus surrounding the tower.
