West Side Community House, founded in 1890, transforms lives in the community by engaging children, families and seniors in an array of model programs and services that promote lifelong learning, foster independence and self-sufficiency and use the arts to inspire, encourage, and renew the life spirit. Sisterhood and the Summer of Sisterhood use involvement in the arts to attract and engage inner-city girls ages 10 – 18 as they learn to value themselves, attain higher levels of academic achievement and to give creative voice to their frustrations, fears and dreams of a bright future.
