The Roberto Ocasio Foundation (TROF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity organization, was established in 2004 to memorialize the late Roberto Ocasio (one of Cleveland’s most revered Latin music and jazz musicians, band leaders, and music educators) by keeping alive his music and his philanthropic commitments and contributions to the community.  Roberto and his band introduced and popularized Latin jazz in northeast Ohio, enriching thousands of lives through his talents and generosity.  While maintaining a heavy performing schedule, he taught and strenuously promoted the music and its roots in schools, universities, and community programs.  To continue Roberto’s legacy and inspiration, particularly for young people, TROF organizes musicians and music educators to present Latin and jazz-oriented music events and enlightening clinics, lectures, demonstrations, and its signature project–the annual Roberto Ocasio Latin Jazz Camp, the only resident high-school music camp in the country solely dedicated to the study and performance of Latin jazz and Latin music genres.  The Camp’s outreach builds bridges between diverse people of all ages, creating friendships and cross-cultural understanding through the music.  Fulfilling its commitment to provide free musical and cultural entertainment for the citizens of Cuyahoga County, TROF produces an annual FREE Public Latin Jazz Concert, directed by world-renowned Bobby Sanabria, TROF Artistic Director, with celebrity and special guest artists performing with Camp students and faculty.
