Through this opportunity, an intern will work to support our community initiatives/engagement team by conducting outreach, compiling stakeholder feedback and summarizing recommendations to inform program development and implementation efforts. Three programs will be the primary focus of this outreach, Assembly’s creative space development initiative, REvision community discussion series, and membership program.

  • Assembly is focused on addressing a serious issue of live/work space access that is facing our creative community due to issues such as gentrification and affordability. As we continue to frame out the scope of this issue and our creative space initiative, we need to conduct community outreach to understand what current resources are available to help artists and creative businesses access space to live, work, rehearse, present, and host events and to identify what gaps exist in the current support infrastructure.

  • Our REvision discussion series provides thought-provoking presentations and community dialogues focused on re-envisioning the state of Greater Cleveland’s creative industries. Topics address pressing issues in our arts and culture community, create points of discussion and offer possibilities for positive change and equity. REvision is held in both virtual and in-person formats and is free to attend. Ongoing research of possible topics and presenters is needed as well as feedback from participants on what topics they want presented in the future.

  • Assembly has a relatively new membership program through which individuals, nonprofits and corporations can sign-up to show their support of our mission. We currently are in the process of developing a more formalized engagement plan and need to collect information on best practices to inform a strategy moving forward.

Intern Responsibilities

  • Learn about community engagement best practices and applying them throughout the project period with a lens on arts and culture administration and project development.

  • Conduct community outreach with arts and community stakeholders to inform Assembly’s creative space development initiative, REvision community discussion series, and membership program.

  • Present findings and recommendations based on community outreach for the above programs going forward.

  • Learn about the work of a nonprofit arts service organization.

  • Assist with the development of marketing and social media content based on outreach.

Intern Qualification

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Interest in the fields of community development, arts administration, communications, marketing, or related field(s).

  • Ability to self-manage and meet internal deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently (hybrid remote and onsite) and with a team.

  • Experience working with diverse audiences and stakeholders with an active dedication to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion and how this intersects with community engagement best practices.

  • Computer skills including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work effectively with a wide array of constituencies and provide high quality customer service, both internally and externally.

  • Commitment to contributing positively to a collaborative, often fast-paced work environment.

Technical skills that will be utilized or developed during the internship include:

  • Developing community engagement plans and timelines.

  • Synthesizing information collected through literature reviews, community interviews, and/or focus groups.

  • Using social media platforms and management tools.

INTERNS WILL WORK ONSITE 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

INTERNS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAM.

INTERNSHIP DURATION:

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On the 5th day of each week, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
