This position is a part-time, non-exempt position at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center. The Welcome Desk Specialist is responsible for fulfilling the mission and goals of the Center by providing customer service to visitors and callers, using database software and phone systems for sales and information, and supporting Wildlife Staff by directing visitors carrying ill or injured animals into the intake room. The schedule for this position includes full or partial weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome, orient and provide information and customer service to visitors and callers in a professional, helpful and engaging manner
  • Conduct sales transactions to register participants in programs using software, database and point of sale technology; provide information regarding a wide selection of programs
  • Oversee technological aspects of welcome desk functions including daily database reports, rosters and phone system; handle mail and channel deliveries
  • Support safety and security initiative including conducting drills and serving as a main communication point
  • Observe and carry out all Welcome Desk Procedures, including opening and closing procedures

Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service, sales, or public information role
  • Computer proficiency and ability and willingness to learn, use and implement software for multiple uses
  • Ability to prioritize varied daily tasks, and short and long term projects
  • Commitment to consistently present a professional, positive image for Lake Erie Nature & Science Center
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment and take initiative as well as ability to work as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm, poise, flexibility, sense of humor and positive attitude

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center is a nonprofit organization providing informal science education for children, families and people of all ages. The Center serves more than 166,000 people each year with a $1.6 million operating budget. It is home to the only wildlife rehabilitation facility in Cuyahoga County, one of two public access planetariums in Cleveland, and a beautiful park setting near Lake Erie. The Center offers a distinct blend of early childhood programs, seasonal family events, school field trips, scout programs, summer camps, wildlife rehabilitation and education services, and free admission to natural history exhibits,.
