Azanian Portraits - Activation of Chepapeism

Azanian Portraits - Activation of Chepapeism

Presented by Zygote Press at Zygote Press

Join Zygote Press at this exciting artist talk with our current resident international artist, Khela Chepape Makgato, which will double as a fundraiser for the community-based programs he runs in his home town. He will be showing prints created during his residency, talking about the themes of his current work, and discussing the programs he is working on back home in Johannesburg.

Prints will be on display and for sale at a reduced rate to  benefit these programs.

“The show explores beautiful and positive stories from Azania, presently known as South Africa. Azania is a name for the Southern African region long before the 1900.The  decision to give this title to the exhibition beside portraits of strong women from my country, is because many people don’t know the history part of the name of South Africa and as someone fascinated by the history of my people, I feel obliged to constantly tell it in my work”
