For this event, Gianna Commito will discuss the site-specific murals by Claudia Comte on view in the Museum’s free ground level.
Artists on Art are monthly talks by local artists who use their own mediums, subjects, and processes to interpret an artwork on view in MOCA’s exhibitions. For this event, Gianna Commito will discuss the site-specific murals by Claudia Comte on view in the Museum’s free ground level. Commito is a painter whose work references the patterns and conditions of urban architecture and the built environment. Rendering her daily experiences and the complexities of the contemporary landscape through a formal exploration of line, shape, texture, dimension, and color, Commito builds her paintings through striking interwoven layers. She is Associate Professor of Painting at Kent State University and in 2015, she was awarded the Cleveland Arts Prize Emerging Artist Award. Her work has been shown throughout the United States and is in many public and private collections. More information can be found at http://www.racheluffnergallery.com/artists/gianna-commito.
