Crime of Complicity: The Bystander from the Holocaust to Today

Crime of Complicity: The Bystander from the Holocaust to Today

Presented by Maltz Museum at Maltz Museum

If you are a bystander and witness a crime, should you be legally obligated to intervene or is moral responsibility enough?

Amos N. Guiora, J.D., Professor of Law at S.J. Quinney College of Law, addresses this important and timely issue from the Holocaust to today.

Bystander complicity is part of the headlines today, from cases of sexual assault on college campuses to Harvey Weinstein to the former USA Gymnastics doctor, and much more. Join Professor Guiora as he demonstrates how lessons from the Holocaust help determine the extent of bystander complicity in our lives today. He shares the experiences of his parents and grandparents during the Holocaust and draws on a wide range of historical material and interviews.

Professor Guiora is the author of The Crime of Complicity: The Bystander in the Holocaust and is a significant contributor to “Bystander—Duty to Act” legislation in Utah.
