Living Rooms is a group exhibition featuring work by Bonnie McCormick ’23, Nic Meinhardt ’24 and Tristen Kovacs ’24. It will be on view April 1–12 in the Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery.
As artists, we depict domestic spaces and the aspects of homes that create comfortable, welcoming environments. Through a variety of means, we make work that evokes these spaces—whether familiar or otherworldly—with the goal of providing an invitation for viewers to make themselves at home. Homes are intimate; an extension of the body, and a gathering place for memory. Living Rooms refers to both a living room as a space in the home for visitors and a space that’s alive.
We collectively focus on domestic environments and objects of comfort and intimacy, which when transformed through the processes of making, presents viewers with an opportunity to imagine into the work as spaces they could exist in or relate to. Our use of vibrant color, scale and composition creates portals, something to pull you in, to attach you to the spaces we’ve captured. Our crafted pieces are tangible objects that bridge the gap between our world and the worlds we imagine.
We consider the home and the experiences that occur within it as something precious and wish to share it with others. The form in which that interaction takes place is variable between our practices, but the invitation stands.
Free Admission.
