Bazooka Blasts

Presented by Community Cup Classic Foundation at Online/Virtual Space

2024 marks the 75th anniversary of Luke Easter’s debut with the then Cleveland Indians. Lucious ‘Luke’ Easter, 6′ 4″- 245 lbs, was 34 years old when the Cleveland Indians bought him up from the Negro Leagues in 1949. In his rookie season, he hit 28 home runs, scored 96 runs, and had 107 RBI with a .280 batting average.  Known for his tape-measured home runs, Luke Easter hit a 477 ft homer in his rookie year, the longest HR ever hit in Cleveland Municipal Stadium. In 1952, he hit 31 HR’s – one in every 7 at bats. A foot injury in early 1954 cut short his major league career but he played Triple -A ball until late in his 40’s.

We are thankful to the Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture Council for funds to support our efforts. We will highlight the best of the presentations in 2024.

The 2024 programs will continue to highlight how these experiences reflect American society and culture in general, to bring awareness to how the past is always with us – to teach us, and to provide inspiration and encouragement to those facing similar challenges today.

We are thankful to the Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture Council for funds to support our efforts. As a result all programs are free.

Donations to support the community and youth efforts of the Community Cup Classic Foundation are welcome .
