Our Art Workshop encompasses all three areas of healing for people with Parkinson’s Disease: it’s a fine motor exercise, a creative outlet, and a meditative practice all in one.
In class, participants are encouraged to create work of their own inspiration. Creative expression has the unique ability to allow a person with PD to momentarily set aside their limitations and challenges, and to focus instead on creating something of personal significance and value. Participants use different media to express their creativity, including, but not limited to paint, markers, etc. We will be introducing multi-media collage in 2024 as a means of self-expression but also as a way to engage in hand/eye coordination therapy. The items used in collage creation can be a catalyst for sharing stories and memories for participants. Clients and their caregivers are welcome and are encouraged to bring in remnants from their own stash and use materials provided by InMotion: old and new magazines, ribbon, buttons, straws, beads, old greeting cards, doilies – anything that can be cut up or applied to a flat board.
Classes are open to InMotion clients with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. If you are not yet a client, please contact Erin Shelton at 216-342-5786 to learn more.
