Never heard of collagraph printmaking? Never fear! This workshop will give you a glimpse into the innumerable possibilities of this collaged-plate medium. From painterly rendering, to a more photographic look, to detailed embossment, collagraphs can be made in many ways. This crash course will give you the basics you need to start experimenting and find your own collagraph process. This three-day class will include a brief historical overview of this contemporary medium, a discussion of ideal materials, and demonstrations of two printing methods. On the first day, there will be a historical slideshow and a demonstration of plate making and printing techniques. On the second day, I will work with each participant to create a plate. On the third, we will print them.
