Popular & dramatic performing Artists from the Cleveland Association of Black Story Tellers proudly & boldly tell the stories of African abcestors to bring laughter, teaching, healing & values through the African diaspora oral story telling tradition
This event is the second of three events titled Literacy Through The Arts designed for students in grades 5 through 8. Performing artists Michele Rudolph & Lois Graham of the Cleveland Association of Black Story Tellers have performed for audiences throughout North East Ohio to teach values and lead healing through the stories that were once told by African ancestors through the African diaspora. The African Diaspora refers to the “dispersal” of Africans outside of the African contnent, the oral tradition of keeping these valuable stories alive are important for historical and cultural preservation.
The program will also include an introduction of the work of Northeast Ohio author Sharon Draper. Sharon Draper is a nationally recognized author whose awards include; National Teacher of The Year, John Stephoe New Talent Award and five time winner of the Coretta Scott King Award for books about the young and adolescent African American experience. Each particpant will take home a copy of her book Out of My Heart.
