Presented by Westown Community Development Corporation and Cleveland Public Library at Cleveland Public Library WestPark Branch

Phyllis Deleva Rivera founder of YMusic & Cleveland Sound 216 Studios is a live performing and recording artist in NEO. Phyllis will perform  a modern flute demonstration and  lead particpants  through its  significant and multi-cultural history  through the ages  that includes its origins  dating back to approximately 900 B.C. in China called a ch’ie. To date, the oldest flutes have been found in the Swabian Alps region of Germany, and are said to have been from about 43,000 to 35,000 years ago. The  Native American flute was principally used by  Woodlands tribes, Southwestern tribes and tribes from the Southern and Northern Plains, this  flute was once a means of transmitting signals in the night and used as a means by which a young man could communicate his love. The program will conclude with a hands on workshop to introduce them to its melodic range.  Each student will take home a free professional grade instrument.
