The CJO has long championed progressive music, and tonight we revisit Gershwin’s landmark masterpiece and new compositions will be premiered.
Long time listeners to the CJO know that each concert is a unique event-the CJO creates its own arrangements and compositions for every guest artist, ensuring that attendees will hear “the best jazz they’ve ever heard and the best jazz they’ve never heard,” and this concert will present music new and old that have pushed the musical envelope in both the jazz and classical realm. A dazzling array of NEO precocious string players and members of the Cleveland Pops will join the CJO in Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” which will be conducted by the Pops’ Carl Topilow, featuring the CJO’s Jackie Warren on piano. New music from the CJO and the Cleveland Composers Guild will also be shared.
