Developing Flexible Musicianship in Bands, Orchestras and Choirs

Designed for large ensemble directors who recognize that their students’ personal musicianship is the foundation of ensemble excellence. By emphasizing listening, reading, and creating, the workshop will explore was to develop a flexible musicianship that equips students to become both excellent ensemble members and to pursue their own independent musical interests across a broad array of musical contexts. Participants will develop their own musicianship, explore teaching strategies, and increase awareness of repertoire and teaching materials. Grounded in principles of audiation and creativity, flexible musicianship empowers students to become lifelong performers, composers, arrangers, improvisers, and listeners. Topics will include student-centered pedagogy, audiation, improvisation, composing, technology, repertoire, and assessment.
