Espiral Making Waves at Shore
Marcela Marzo
I recently went to observe the Espiral class at Shore Cultural Centre. When first walking into the theater where they meet, I was immediately intrigued. This historic theater has a presence there, where for almost 100 years has seen so many productions. Having no formal training in dance, I didn’t know what to expect. The class was taught by beautiful Susana Evert, of DanceEvert. She began with warmups and afterwards the class moved to the lateral to move across the very big stage.
From what I read in previous articles and press releases, the format of the class is comprised of four internationally renowned teachers and choreographers. Also the class has a spectrum of dancers from beginners to professionals. What is immediately noticeable is how focused the dancers are on the training. The professionals are as engaged as the beginners. Together they make a unique dance community that I found awesome. I felt as though I was watching a production of sorts. It was totally enjoyable. It made me feel that I can do that.
In closing this article, I recommend to everyone to stop in the theater at Shore Cultural Centre on Thursdays from 6-8 pm and observe. Also Espiral will have dance performances throughout the year. So I think it’s beautiful that DanceEvert is back with Espiral Community Dance Theatre extending the invitation to the community to be part of the Dance, however they choose, as participant or audience.
