Members-only behind-the-scenes tour at Wickliffe City Hall
Wickliffe City Hall was originally known as Coulallenby and it was part of a 54-acre estate built by Harry C. Coulby, who rose from penniless immigrant to a partner of the coal and ore shipping company of Pickand Mather. White-glazed terra cotta from Georgia is used on the exterior and Italian marble on the interior. Original Tiffany chandeliers light the council meetings in what was once a formal living room. The thickly carpeted and carved Italian walnut library is the mayor’s office. While many historic details are still intact, the city has used the space for working offices for 69 years and necessary adaptations have been made, including an elevator next to the main staircase.
Come hear more about Mr. Coulby and his house on a tour led by docents from the Wickliffe
Historical Society and Dan Ruminski, Cleveland Storyteller, author of “The Great Estates of Wickliffe.”
