German Day Cleveland, celebrated on October 1, 2023, is the annual recognition of the national German-American Day.
German Day Cleveland is the local recognition of the national German-American Day celebrating German American heritage. In 1983, President Reagan proclaimed October 6 as German-American Day to honor the 300th anniversary of German immigration to the thirteen colonies and it has been designated as German-American Day every year since.
Everyone interested in German language, culture, food, music or dance is invited to this afternoon of all things German. German-language cultural groups in northeast Ohio are invited to perform. As part of the recognition, we invite a guest speaker to share their story about life in Germany before, during and after World War II. As part of our annual programming, we videotape stories of post World War II immigrants and play them during the event.
