Lunch on Fridays: Freudian Strips

Lunch on Fridays: Freudian Strips

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art at The Cleveland Institute of Art - Peter B. Lewis Theater

Spend your lunch hour hearing from Ursuline College professor Valentino L. Zullo as he presents “Freudian Strips: A History of Comics and Mental Health in the U.S.” during Lunch on Fridays at 12:15pm Friday, March 24 in CIA’s Peter B. Lewis Theater.

Zullo will explore the ways that comics have both documented and responded to the shifting landscape of mental health in America during the 20th and 21st centuries. From the horror comics of the 1950s to Spider-Man to the Joker, the medium has long been invested in better understanding the mind.

Valentino L. Zullo is the Anisfield-Wolf Postdoctoral Fellow in English and Public Humanities at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. He is the former Ohio Center for the Book Scholar-in-Residence at Cleveland Public Library, where he continues to co-lead the Get Graphic program. He also is American editor of the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics.

Parking: Lunch on Fridays attendees may park in any of CIA’s parking lots: Lot 73, Lot 74 and the Annex Lot, all of which surround our campus. Please note that signs posted around those lots correctly state that parking typically requires a CIA permit or visitor pass and that violators will be ticketed. However, to accommodate our valued Lunch on Fridays attendees, that policy won’t be enforced during the program. Have questions? Please contact Reinberger Gallery at reinbergergallery@cia.edu or 216.421.7407.
