Convergence-continuum presents the Cleveland premiere of THE OLDEST PROFESSION by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paula Vogel. It’s 1981, the year in which Ronald Reagan is about to enter the White House, and five hookers of advanced age (50’s-70’s) are faced with a diminishing clientele, increased competition for their niche market and aching joints. The motley crew of ladies – who ply their trade on New York’s Upper West Side — have been colleagues for decades. With wit, compassion, humor and some pretty naughty songs, they struggle to find and learn new tricks as they fight to stay in “the Life” in an era of trickle-down economics.
“endearing, gritty and witty” (DC Theatre Scene)
“warm and funny, bitchy and bright” (Talkin’ Broadway)
THE OLDEST PROFESSION is directed by Amy Bistok, with Moss Stanley (Music Director /pianist) and Jonathan Wilhelm (Stage Manager / Assistant Director). The cast features actors Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Jeanne Madison, Marcia Mandell, Jeanne Task and Valerie Young.
