Join the Maltz Museum and PBS Western Reserve for a special screening of the documentary Training for Freedom
Training for Freedom captures the transformational story of how idealistic college students and Black activists came together during the summer of 1964 on the grounds of the Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio, to learn how to register Black voters and how to stay alive using nonviolent disobedience tactics and rules for survival in the most dangerous and violently oppressive state in the Jim Crow South. Weaving intimate personal stories from participants and local residents with critical historical analysis from noted historians and scholars, the film explores how people from dramatically different worlds broke down barriers of race, class, and gender to organize the most comprehensive campaign of the Civil Rights Movement. A discussion with Q&A will follow the screening. Limited seating available. Register now!
