Christmas a lo LatinUS – featuring two short works centered around Christmas – “La Apuesta,” a Mexican folk tale comedy, and “Santa Clo va a la Cuchilla,” a comedic short story by Abelardo Diaz Alfaro, both adapted by Antonio Medina-Rivera.
“La Apuesta” – is a comedy about what happens when a group of Mexican angels and a group of Mexican devils make a bet about getting Mary and Joseph to the manger for Jesus’s birth. A grand heavenly, or earthly, the battle will occur between angels and demons to see who will win the bet.
“Santa Clo llegó a la Cuchilla” – a comedy about what happened to the town of Cuchilla, Puerto Rico, in the 1940s when the Three Wise Men and a young teacher from New Yol introduce Santa Claus as a part of the Christmas tradition. Blessed Santa Claus is going to have to run for his life! In Spanish with English supertitles.
