About Index Literacy Program
The Index Literacy Program is a collaborative research practice led by Laura Serejo Genes, Nolan Oswald Dennis, and Pedro Zylbersztajn. Together, they use diverse strategies to study indexicality as a social technology. With that, they look for the structures that undergird organizational logics, embodied routines and referential maneuvers and render knowledge infrastructures operational in an unequal global information economy.
Over the last five years, they have conducted workshops, presentations, and writing probing what they call an indexical attitude–the peculiar dynamic that transfigures an object to point toward another object (or to itself) in such a way that it may provide access to the latter as information. They are currently editing Indexing Imaginaries (DATA browser/Open Humanities Press, 2022/2023), a volume compiling a provisional theory of an indexical attitude in aggregate through contributions by a multidisciplinary group of artists and researchers.
