Mouse Museum Reframed: 20 Years and More

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art at Cleveland Institute of Art, Ann and Norman Roulet Student + Alumni Gallery

Mouse Museum Reframed: 20 Years and More is a career retrospective solo exhibition of work by Foundation faculty member Christian Wulffen, who will retire in December after teaching for nearly 20 years at the Cleveland Institute of Art. A public reception will be held from 6 to 8pm Friday, November 11 in conjunction with the opening of the 2022 Faculty Exhibition.

From Wulffen:

The exhibition space in general and specific is different from community to community. From its assigned commissions, its historical and social backgrounds, its curatorial directions and to be or not be an incubator of contemporary art. Framed, unframed or reframed.

Let us take the four walls, the ceiling and the floor. One of these walls is the window wall, the other the entrance wall. Each wall are elements in a circulating function to each other. “Memory wall,” “patch work wall,” or “introduction wall.” The floor will project a ground floor.

The mouse is directing locating itself permanently, in a shape of transferring one second of information into the next. Depending on the move.

Claus Oldenburg (1929–2022) started his Mouse Museum complex from 1965 to 1977. The review of my work of 20 years in the U.S. let me recall Oldenburg’s idea of Mouse Museum. I call it Mouse Museum Reframed; things are changing. So, the walk through a gallery pretending it as a museum in the eyes of a mouse.
