Infernal Affairs

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque

Hong Kong, 2002, Andrew Lau, Alan Mak

One of the all-time great Hong Kong action movies (it spawned two sequels), the celebrated crime film that inspired The Departed (see 9/25 at 6:30) is an equally electrifying thriller—and tighter than Scorsese’s Oscar-winning epic. Tony Leung plays a policeman who is embedded with a criminal gang, and Andy Lau is a gang member who has infiltrated the police. Mirror images of each other, the two men work to bring down (or protect) a notorious underworld boss—while also racing against time to unmask the other. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. DCP. 101 min. www.janusfilms.com/films/2085
