Cleveland’s medieval music ensemble, Trobár, revives a 13th-century French proto-musical with all of its attendant antics.
A beautiful and savvy shepherdess, her dopey but devoted shepherd paramour, and their village friends encounter a villainous knight with evil intentions. Can they run him off and return to their idyllic pastoral life? Full of witty banter, toe-tapping tunes, and silly antics, this 13th-c. proto-musical by Adam de la Halle, in English adaptation by Lucy Cross and Allison Monroe, proves itself a timeless comedy with a serious undercurrent addressing privilege and power dynamics.
Allison Monroe and Elena Mullins are joined by guest artists Nathan Dougherty, Ellen Hargis, Allen Otte, Sian Ricketts, and Edward Vogel for this season opener!
We welcome children/young adults especially for this show, recommending it in particular to those around grade 4 and up. Due to a few suggestive scenarios and the complexity of the dialogue, it may not be appropriate for younger children.
