The spacious sanctuary of Disciples Church is the perfect setting for the colorful charm and subtle details packed into this vibrant program, opening with delightful arrangements of familiar tunes, and a miniature gem by Walker. Extravagant ornamentation abounds in the Kodály Duo, balancing Hungarian folk elements on a delicate framework of art music. Seemingly effortless and spontaneous, one would never suspect that Fauré struggled with his first Piano Quintet for decades before he was satisfied with its glistening, ethereal sound world.
