From page to stage, and now to film, this installment of our annual Festival of New Works is a community World Premiere film of an original student play.
In fall of 2021, CSA produced and directed SAY HIS NAME, a play co-written by students and Theater Director Dr. Scott Miller. Because of the pandemic, seating and performance dates were limited. Now, after tremendous reception, the work has been developed into a film to reach wider student groups and community audiences—led by support from Eric Gordon, CEO of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and the Community Engagement Team.
SAY HIS NAME, an original work, goes beyond the headlines of police violence. The story explores the way one violent act has the power to ripple through the lives of family members, the community, and the police. It is dynamic and insightful, and reflects the creativity of CSA students as they use their art to try to make society more just and compassionate. SAY HIS NAME is powerful and moving as it speaks to the hopes of today’s youth in Cleveland to make their world a better place.
