The Tsugua Diaries

The Tsugua Diaries

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque

Portugal/France, 2021, Maureen Fazendeiro, Miguel Gomes

Three friends—a young woman and two young men—share a house in the beautiful Portuguese countryside during the Covid lockdown. They spend August and September 2020 building a butterfly enclosure, cleaning, canoodling, etc. Soon they are joined by others, but where did they come from? This beguiling new work from the director of 2012’s Tabu and 2015’s Arabian Nights is a playful puzzle sensuously shot on 16mm film. “A celebration of community.” –Sight & Sound. “Cockeyed, funny, and slyly meta-cinematic.” –Film at Lincoln Center. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. DCP. 102 min. Special admission $11; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $8. No passes or twofers.
