Negro League Championship Series 1916

Negro League Championship Series 1916

Presented by Community Cup Classic Foundation at Online/Virtual Space

In the days before organized leagues, leading Black teams took it upon themselves to arrange series to determine the unofficial champion of Black Baseball. In 1916, the Rube Foster’s Chicago American Giants locked horns with C.I. Taylor’s Indianapolis ABCs in a contentious and controversial ten-game set. Featuring Hall of Famers Pete Hill, John Henry Lloyd, Oscar Charleston, and Ben Taylor, as well as other stars like Bruce Petway, Frank Wickware, Dizzy DIsmukes and Bingo DeMoss, this 1916 championship encounter offers a fascinating glimpse into ‘dead ball era’ Blackball.
