'Ukulele for the Young Musician

'Ukulele for the Young Musician

Presented by Baldwin Wallace Community Arts School at BW Conservatory of Music Boesel Musical Arts Center

The ‘ukulele is a beautiful instrument that is approachable in ways that allow for instantaneous music-making. The focus of this class is to create informal group music performance experiences that not only provide practice in foundational musical skills and concepts but also encourages students in a pursuit of lifelong music creation. The ‘ukulele is something students can enjoy now through adulthood.

‘Ukulele for Young Musicians is taught by Lorelei Batislaong, Associate Professor of General Music Education at Baldwin Wallace University. During her 20-year teaching career, she has honed a learning sequence based on the Orff approach and other eclectic approaches, that joyfully communicates ‘ukulele learning to elementary-aged students. Lorelei is committed to responsive and affirming approaches to learning based on building community within the classroom.

‘Ukulele for Young Musicians is for music-makers ages 8-11. Previous music experience is not necessary but is also welcomed. Whether this is the first time holding an ‘ukulele or if they’ve played before, we will make music together!

Students may bring their own ‘Ukulele with them to class. If students do not have access to a ‘Ukulele, instruments may be borrowed during the semester at no cost.
