Dalcroze Musicianship

Dalcroze Musicianship

Presented by Baldwin Wallace Community Arts School at BW Conservatory of Music Boesel Musical Arts Center

It is designed as a hands-on approach to music theory to strengthen the abilities of music students and deepen their understanding of musical concepts such as pulse, meter, rhythm, phrase, and form.

Musical Goals:

Identify notes in the treble and bass clef on the grand staff (Low C through High C)
Half and whole steps, sharps, and flats
Intervals of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and octave
Tonic and dominant notes and chords
Simple and compound meters of 2, 3 and 4
Major and minor scale structures (C Major, G Major, F Major, D Major, Bb Major, and A Minor) using letter names and scale degree numbers
Expression symbols and dynamic markings
Musical symbols such as slurs, ties, staccatos, accents
Speak, step, and conduct rhythms in simple and compound meter

The Dalcroze approach is founded on the artistic and pedagogical ideas of Swiss educator Èmile Jaques-Dalcroze and is internationally recognized as a proven approach to teaching students of all ages, from very young through professional musicians.
