Natural Areas Field Trip: Two Beauties: Cathedral Woods and Armstrong Hemlock Swamp

Natural Areas Field Trip: Two Beauties: Cathedral Woods and Armstrong Hemlock Swamp

Presented by Cleveland Museum of Natural History at Cathedral Woods

INSTRUCTORS: GARRETT ORMISTON & KEN SCHNEIDER

Today we’ll explore two stately hemlock stands. Cathedral Woods is a mature hemlock–mixed hardwood forest that boasts a diversity of canopy trees, including hemlock, yellow birch, tuliptree, cucumber magnolia, various oaks, and one of the best populations of striped maple in Ohio. Next we’ll pay homage to the old-growth hemlocks of Armstrong Hemlock Swamp, where a healthy headwater stream winds among the silent giants.
Note: All Leadership Circle members receive additional discounts on programs.
