Dancing Wheels Company presentes "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

Presented by Dancing Wheels Company & School at Cain Park - Evans Amphitheatre

The Dancing Wheels Company is bringing to the Cain Park Evans Amphitheater stage the enchanting and frolicking Shakespearean A Midsummer Night’s Dream as re-imagined and choreographed by Catherine Meredith. This comedic story of order and disorder, reality and appearance, and love and marriage comes alive with a diverse and inclusive cast of characters with and without disabilities. Join us Friday, August 6 at 8pm for a magical evening of physically integrated dance and imagination in the ideal setting for this whimsical story ballet premiere!

Dancing Wheels’s lifelong mission is to educate, advocate, and entertain through compelling, innovative dance best expressed by people of all abilities. Considered one of the premier arts and disabilities organizations in the U.S., Dancing Wheels is a professional, physically integrated dance company uniting the talents of dancers both with and without disabilities. Mary Verdi-Fletcher, the first professional wheelchair dancer in the U.S., founded the Dancing Wheels Company in 1980. Though the original premiere of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was waylaid by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are thrilled to be bringing this world-premiere work to the Cain Park outdoor amphitheater stage for your midsummer evening enjoyment!

In addition to our newly re-imagined A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Dancing Wheels Company will begin the evening by performing a thrilling suite of modern dance pieces choreographed to the music of Vivaldi. The Koto Vivaldi Trio, Duet, and Quintet, originally premiered in 1995, are lively pieces sure to excite all audience members before we embark together on the whimsical journey of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
