Natural Areas Field Trip: A Walk at Wolf Run

Natural Areas Field Trip: A Walk at Wolf Run

Presented by Cleveland Museum of Natural History at Wolf Run Preserve

INSTRUCTORS: GARRETT ORMISTON & KEN SCHNEIDER
Wolf Run Preserve protects nearly a mile of the Vermilion River and contains a variety of habitats and unique geological formations. Join us as we walk along the Vermilion, admiring the majestic outcroppings of Cleveland Shale that tower over the river’s banks and exploring the ice-scour micro-prairies present on small islands in the river floodplain. The “Wolf Run” that lends the preserve its name is a small tributary of the Vermilion that flows through a picturesque, winding box canyon in the northern reaches of the preserve. Those who venture in will find a miniature version of the slate walls that line the Vermilion proper.

FIELD TRIP INTENSITY
Moderate
WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
Hiking boots and clothing befitting the weather, field gear, water, snacks, binoculars, camera, hiking poles if desired. There are trails on the preserve, but they are not improved trails, and we may be off-trail at times.
