This Zoom workshop is an exploration of blind contour drawing. Without looking at the paper, we will place a pen on the page and draw what we actually observe instead of what we think we see.
Blind contour drawing is meant to help artists practice their observation skills, and for those who approach the technique with patience, it can even be a calming exercise. Without looking at the paper, the pen is placed on the page and participants draw what they actually observe instead of what they think they see. The results can be quite funny and beautiful at the same time!
Supplies:
Black sharpie, fine point
3 or more sheets of thick 8.5 x 11 paper, such as cardstock or watercolor paper
Watercolors with paintbrush
Cup or container for water
Paper towels for drying paintbrush between colors
Another person in the room for students to use as a model for their drawing (a large photo could be used, but a live person works best!)
