Instructor: Anna Tararova

In this joint workshop students will meet at the Morgan Conservatory August 14-15 to learn every step of the papermaking process as well as painting with many thin layers of finely beaten cotton pulp. Students will pigment fiber and form sheets of abaca as the canvas for pulp paintings. With the sheet still in the mould and deckle, students will paint and stencil using colored cotton mixed with formation aid, overlapping and mixing pigmented fiber to create atmospheric, watercolor-like papers as well as graphic artworks.

The following Saturday August 21, we will meet at Zygote Press to learn the process of screen printing. Students will be able to print text, patterns, photographs, and illustrations on their handmade papers as well as store-bought papers.

No prior experience required.

Sketches, references of what will be printed on the handmade papers

Screen printing:

Digital files of text, patterns, photographs, and/or illustrations (these can be emailed to Anna ahead of time or brought on a jump drive)

Instructor Bio:

Anna Tararova was born in Russia and currently lives in Cleveland Heights. She received an MFA in Printmaking from Ohio University. Anna completed artist residencies at Paper Circle, the Center for Book and Paper Arts at Columbia College Chicago, The Morgan Conservatory and Dundee Contemporary Arts. Anna has worked as the Art-In-Ed Resident at Women’s Studio Workshop and has taught many papermaking, printmaking, and photography classes for children and adults.
