Mask- SOLD OUT

Mask- SOLD OUT

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque

United States | 1985 | Peter Bogdanovich

We resume theatrical screenings (after a 15½-month intermission!) with an Oscar-winning classic in its extended director’s cut that’s never been shown theatrically in Cleveland and is unavailable on any streaming service. Released the year the Cinematheque started showing movies and sporting a title that could not be more timely (make sure you familiarize yourself with our new Covid protocols, by the way), Peter Bogdanovich’s Mask proved an irresistible choice for our reopening feature. Plus it’s on 35mm film! Cher (Best Actress, Cannes 1985), Eric Stoltz, Sam Elliott, and Laura Dern star in this moving account of a teen with a disfiguring disease and his steadfast and supportive mother. The director’s cut is seven minutes longer than the version released to theaters. It also contains the Bruce Springsteen songs that Bogdanovich could not include initially—forcing him to substitute Bob Seger tunes. Cleveland theatrical premiere. 127 min.

Admission Info

Special admission $14; members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders, and those age 25 & under $11. No passes or twofers. Capacity limited; advance tickets advised.

Covid safety protocols. Though Governor DeWine has lifted many Covid restrictions throughout the state, the Cleveland Institute of Art is currently keeping its precautions in place and is assiduously enforcing them. Masks must be worn at all times. Temperatures will be checked upon entering the building. Wristbands will be handed out by security and must be worn while in the building. Social distancing will be maintained in the lobby, restrooms, and theater. In the auditorium, there will be one-way traffic flow and seating will be spaced out, with certain seats and rows blocked off. Sanitation/sterilization stations will dot the premises.

Boxoffice and building. Though we will continue to accept both cash and credit cards at the boxoffice, you will notice other temporary changes to our operation. There will be no access to CIA’s upper floors (including restrooms and vending machines), nor to the ground floor beyond the theater and lobby. Our community candy dish will be put away. The Annex parking lot will be closed, so park for free in Lot 73 (off E. 117th St. south of Euclid) and enter the building through Entrance C (the only entry door that will be open) off Lot 73.
