The Story of a Three-Day Pass

The Story of a Three-Day Pass

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at Online/Virtual Space

France | 1968 | Melvin Van Peebles

Made three years before his explosive Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song, Melvin Van Peebles’ first feature is a quieter (if no less pointed and angry) work. Shot in France and based on a novel that Renaissance man Van Peebles wrote during the years he lived there, the movie focuses on an African-American soldier in Europe who spends a weekend leave in a whirlwind romance with a white French woman. New 4K restoration!  “Among the great American films of the sixties.” –New Yorker. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. 87 min. Promotional support provided by the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival.
