An undocumented West African immigrant in present-day Berlin falls in with a drug dealer, a sex worker, and other societal outcasts in this update of Alfred Döblin’s 1929 novel that was also the basis for Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 15-hour 1980 miniseries.
