The Great Green Wall

The Great Green Wall

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at Online/Virtual Space

UK | 2019 | Jared P. Scott

In this new environmental doc, Oscar-nominated Brazilian producer Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) and Malian-French female singer Inna Modja take us on an epic, music-driven journey of hope, hardship, and perseverance along Africa’s Great Green Wall, which is being created along the southern border of the Sahara. This budding, 8,000-kilometer belt of trees stretching across the continent—from Senegal to Djibouti—is intended to fight climate change, desertification, and mass migration while providing jobs, food, and a future for millions of Africans. The movie is both a stunning travelogue and an oasis of memorable music, from Malian blues to Sub-Saharan hip-hop. “Shines a light on one of the world’s most ambitious initiatives.” –Variety. Cleveland premiere. Subtitles. 90 min.
