A Sunday in the Country

A Sunday in the Country

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at Online/Virtual Space

France| 1984 | Bertrand Tavernier

Voted the Best Foreign Language Film of 1984 by both the New York and London Film Critics Circles, this evocative movie by veteran French filmmaker and cinephile Bertrand Tavernier, who died last week at age 79, is one of his most celebrated works. It also earned him the Best Director prize at Cannes. A luminous Sabine Azéma stars in this Renoirish pastorale in which an elderly, widowed painter is visited by his faithful son and grandchildren—as well as by his beloved but remote, non-conformist daughter—one Sunday shortly before the start of World War I. Cleveland revival premiere. Subtitles. 94 min.
