A Photography Exhibit exploring the hopes, dreams and fears of mothers with black sons.
Mothers in Black and White aims to expose racial inequities and biases by allowing the viewer to practice the art of listening and observation; acknowledge where overt and covert racism exist; build empathy across racial divides, and remind viewers that before any harmful identity marker is assigned to a black male in America, he is someone’s precious son.
This exhibit is dedicated to Courtney, the photographers late friend who lost her life to cancer. She courageously used her voice, to expose her hopes, dreams and fears for her sons so we can all fight a little harder to dismantle systemic racism. May her legacy live on.
All photography by Sharon Hughes.
