This innovative, project, sponsored by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, features four emerging African-American playwrights’ staged readings of one-act plays and scenes portraying individuals struggling with, and overcoming life issues
Ade Borishade, Evonne Fields-Gould, Peter A. Fields and Rebecca Morris, playwrights, present themes of life which offer great insight to struggles we all share.
“To Be or Not to Be African,” by Ade Borishade, tells about Kyra’s desire to learn about her heritage, and who she really is, as she faces a life-changing decision.
“Where Winter Rests on a Wounded Heart,” by Evonne Fields-Gould, reveals the struggles endured by Claire throughout her life, because of her diagnosis, without much support from her loved ones.
Peter A. Fields’ “That Guy,” shares Stephen’s mental dilemma as a playwright who is going through writer’s block and struggles with the characters in his play.
Payne Hill, the central character in “Au Pare, ” by Rebecca Morris, demonstrates her independence, against society’s “conventional wisdom,” as she spends her life pursuing her dreams of being a success.
All the stories portray the adages “turning tragedies into triumphs” as the characters reveal their concepts of overcoming dilemmas, despair, struggles and inner strengths for ultimate success.
