Praxis Fiber Workshop: Introduction to Indigo

Join Allison Henline of SHS and Jessica Pinsky and Anna Routson of Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio as they talk about the community indigo project started by Praxis in 2019. Learn about this incredible plant from seed to harvest and the process of dyeing with indigo and other natural dyes. This year, Shaker Historical Society is collaborating with Praxis to grow indigo plants on museum grounds! This introduction is a must for anyone in the Shaker Heights community interested in growing indigo or helping out with the project at the museum. Presenter Bio: Jessica Pinsky grew up in Akron, Ohio and moved to Cleveland in 2011 after receiving a BFA in Studio Art from New York University in 2006 and an MFA in painting from Boston University in 2009. She began teaching at Cleveland Institute of Art in 2011 and is currently serving as faculty in the Sculpture and Expanded Media department. Together with Cleveland Institute of Art, Jessica founded Praxis Fiber Workshop in 2105 and started our indigo program in 2018.

Anna Routson was born and raised in central Pennsylvania. She originally came to Ohio to pursue a fashion degree at Kent State University. While at Kent State, she discovered weaving and fell in with creating cloth. She received a BA in Textile Arts. Though her work is mostly woven, she enjoys helping people pursue all aspects of fiber work.
